Black Gold School Division was formed January 1, 1995. It encompasses the former Leduc School District No. 297, County of Leduc No. 25 and the Devon School District No. 492. The Division extends from the New Sarepta area to the east, to the Warburg area to the west. It includes the municipalities of Beaumont, Devon, Thorsby, Calmar, City of Leduc, and Leduc County. The Board of Education consists of seven trustees; one from each of the three rural wards, two from the City of Leduc, one from the Town of Devon and one from the City of Beaumont. The central office is located in Nisku east of the Edmonton International Airport. Our jurisdiction borders the south boundary of the City of Edmonton.

The Board of Education and its employees are committed to joint decision-making and a collaborative approach to system operation and policy development. Stakeholder groups are actively involved in the operation of the jurisdiction. Schools in the system have school councils. Parents are welcomed in Black Gold School Division and are actively involved in the decision-making process.

Approximately 12,000 students are enrolled in the 32 schools in the system. Quality instruction is delivered by over 720 (F.T.E.) teachers with the support of approximately 634 staff such as, secretaries, library clerks, custodians, and educational assistants. A full program, including second language instruction, gifted programs, and special needs instruction, is provided to the students in grades one through twelve, along with kindergarten and pre-kindergarten.
